A man and woman died Wednesday in a head-on collision on the Seward Highway near the Sterling Highway interchange, Alaska State Troopers said.
The man was driving a Chevrolet pickup north near Mile 38 of the highway when he lost control and entered the southbound lane and collided with a motor home just before 6 p.m., troopers said. Black ice was reported in the area, they said.
The driver and his female passenger died at the scene, troopers said. A man who was driving the motor home suffered minor injuries and declined treatment by medics at the scene, they said. There were no passengers in the motor home, according to a troopers spokesman.
The bodies of the man and woman were sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office. They have not been identified pending notification of next of kin.
The highway was closed in both directions for about three hours.
