How to cast your ballot in the final days leading up to Anchorage’s election

April 4 is the last day to vote in this year’s Anchorage municipal election. If you haven’t voted yet, there are multiple ways you can still submit your ballot.

Mailed-in ballots must be postmarked on or before election day, and voters who return their ballot envelopes the day before or on election day should ask a postal official to hand-stamp the envelope with a postmark to ensure their ballot is counted.

Aside from voting by mail, Anchorage voters have multiple other options.

Vote in person

Voters can cast a ballot in-person at one of the city’s three vote centers. Those locations are:

• Anchorage City Hall, 632 W. Sixth Ave., Room 105.

• Loussac Library, 3600 Denali St., in the Assembly chambers.

• Eagle River Town Center, 12001 Business Blvd., Community Room 170. This vote center is in the same building as the library, and only has Chugiak-Eagle River ballots.

The centers will be open on Saturday, April 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; on Sunday, April 2, from noon to 5 p.m.; and on Monday, April 3, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. On election day, April 4, vote centers will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

Drop your ballot at a drop box

The city’s 18 secure drop boxes are also available. Those locations are listed on the municipality’s elections website. Voters can return their ballots in a drop box up until 8 p.m. on election day.

Track your ballot

Voters can find out if their ballot envelope has been received and processed using a ballot tracking system the city implemented last year. Those who sign up for the system at anchoragevotes.com can get automatic text, email or phone-call updates on the status of their ballot. Voters can also call the voter hotline at 907-243-8683 to find out if their ballot envelope has been received and processed.

When to expect results

Ballots will continue to arrive at the elections center by mail after election day, so tallies released on election day will be preliminary. The tallies will continue to change, possibly up until the day of certification by the Assembly.

The first round of preliminary election results is expected after 8 p.m. Tuesday, although it will take several more days for ballots to be processed and tallied for voters to get a fuller picture of the returns. As ballots continue to be tallied, updates on preliminary returns will be posted after 5 p.m. in the days following.

Ballots that arrive by the Public Session of Canvass on April 20 will be counted. Results of the election are scheduled to be certified on April 25, according to the city’s election calendar.

What’s on the ballot

Seven of 12 Anchorage Assembly seats and two Anchorage School Board seats are up for election. Fourteen ballot propositions will also be decided by Anchorage voters in this election, including a school bond.
