This event is free and open to the public. This year’s celebration will be a “Founder’s Day” celebration with the Rev. Dr. Alonzo B. Patterson Jr. being honored.
MLK Cultural Solidarity Celebration: 5 p.m. Monday; Bettye Davis East High, 4025 E. Northern Lights Blvd.
This free gathering includes vendors, live music and entertainment, along with food and drinks. Jack and Jill of America has teamed up with the SouperBowl Initiative to collect dollars and food for those in need. Bring canned goods and shelf-stable foods, with 100% of donations given to local charities.
MLK Day Free Legal Help: Noon-4 p.m. Monday, Mountain View Boys & Girls Club, 315 Price St.
This 16th annual event hosted by the Alaska Bar Association, Alaska Court System, Alaska Legal Services Corp. and local bar associations is an opportunity to consult with attorneys on a variety of topics. Alaskans can get advice on civil issues including family law, landlord/tenant, public benefits, employment law, probate or estate planning issues. Shuttles will run to the event between 1 and 4 p.m. from the shelter at 1111 E. 56th Ave. and the Hope Center Downtown Soup Kitchen at 240 E. Third Ave.
Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration in the Mat-Su: 1 p.m. Monday; Glenn Massay Theater in Palmer, 8295 E. College Drive
The Mat-Su Martin Luther King Jr. Foundation hosts its annual celebration of Dr. King, including a special tribute to Melvin L. Sage-II and a special recognition to John Childs.
Freedom Shred: Saturday, Sunday and Monday; Hilltop Ski Area, 7015 Abbott Road
This gathering includes a DJ, giveaways plus ski gear demos. It features motivational speaker, author and athlete Spencer J. Conley. Three-day passes are $100 and include lessons and rental equipment.
