Anchorage Folk Festival

Times all weekend and locations throughout Anchorage

The Anchorage Folk Festival’s second weekend kicks off Thursday with a fundraising barn dance and Cajun ball at the Spenard Recreation Center. Tickets are $20 or $10 for students with ID.

Friday’s festivities include a community jam at Guido’s Pizza and mainstage performances at the Wendy Williamson Auditorium, including one by headliner Corey Ledet Zydeco.

On Saturday, performances and workshops continue at the Wendy, along with a banjo contest and instrument swap. Corey Ledet Zydeco will perform at Odd Man Rush Brewing. Tickets are $25.

Sunday concludes with performances and workshops at the Wendy.

Beetlejuice

7:30 p.m. Thursday-Friday; 1/7:30 p.m. Saturday; 1/7 p.m. Sunday; Atwood Concert Hall, 621 W. Sixth Ave.

Based on the classic Tim Burton film, this musical “tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager whose whole life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and a demon with a thing for stripes.”

The production ran on Broadway from 2019 to 2023 and started touring nationally in 2022.

Tickets range in price from $49 to $139, and the run of the show continues until Feb. 9 with an off-day Monday.

Alaska Craft Beer & Barleywine Festival

6-10 p.m. Friday; noon-4 p.m. and 6-10 p.m. Saturday; Dena’ina Center, 600 W. Seventh Ave.

This festival featuring 65 of the region’s best breweries will have three sessions this weekend. Besides the bounty of beverages, there’ll be games like cornhole, a photo booth and a potbelly pig petting zoo.

The Friday session features music by H3, Saturday’s early session performers are The Vintage Retro, and at the Saturday late session, The Stack provides entertainment.

Tickets are $75 and include a commemorative tasting cup and 15 sample tickets. DD tickets are just $10.

Black Business Expo & Summit

1-5 p.m. Saturday; Anchorage Museum, 625 C St.

The Alaska Black Business Expo returns for its 10th year. Admission is free for this event, which supports entrepreneurs and is a great place to network with business leaders. There are ticketed events, including a fireside chat and panels, a fashion show and an afterparty featuring guest speaker and DJ Talib Kweli. Comedian Carlos Mencia

8 p.m. Thursday; 7 and 9:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday; Broken Blender, 535 W. Third Ave.

Comedian Carlos Mencia, best known for his Comedy Central show “Mind of Mencia,” comes to Anchorage for a five-show run. Tickets are $38.

Cabaret

Runs Friday through March 2; Cyrano’s Theatre Building, 3800 DeBarr Road

This Tony-winning musical “explores the dark and heady life of Bohemian Berlin as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich.”

This Friday and Saturday’s shows are sold out, but tickets for a number of dates during the run, including Sunday, are still available.

Alaska Ski for Women

1 p.m. Sunday; Kincaid Park, 9401 Raspberry Road

The winter has been less than ideal for skiers, but the 29th annual Ski for Women is still on. The freestyle timed race starts at 1 p.m., followed by the classic at 1:30 p.m. The costume parade and party wave follow. There will be food and refreshments at the chalet, and the Flamingo Mixer starts at 1:30 p.m. Don’t forget the Friends and Family Ski from 1-5 p.m. Saturday.
