Letter: Guns and safety

Let’s compare two hypothetical cities — similar real-world examples can probably be found — which are identical in every way save one: There are zero guns in City A, whereas in City B every adult possesses a firearm of some kind, and ammunition.  After, say, a year, for both cities total all the deaths caused by bullets — accidents, suicides, homicides.I’m pretty sure we can guess in which city there would be more gun-related deaths.

Do more guns make our society more safe, more secure, more peaceful?
