Letter: Remembering Carter’s legacy in Alaska

As we mourn Jimmy Carter and remember his impact on Alaska, we tend to overlook one important thing he did for the state. He deregulated the price of North Slope oil, permitting it to be sold at market price. President Carter, toward the end of his presidency, initiated what I recall was a gradual price transition over 24 months. Much of the transition took place under President Reagan, who tended to get the credit for what President Carter initiated.
