Are more routes better than one? The existing Seward-Glenn connector proposals persist in routing all Glenn/Seward Highway traffic through the heart of Anchorage. Have DOT planners considered splitting traffic flows? Improvements at Boniface Parkway might allow north-south through-traffic flow to avoid Midtown congestion. Similarly, alternative access to the Ship Creek railroad/harbor area should mitigate the need for large trucks traveling through mid-downtown areas. Given acknowledged decline in Anchorage growth as identified in the plan, perhaps additional access routes could further reduce traffic volume and allow Seward-Glenn designs that are more suited to core urban residential areas.
