Steve Haycox’s Jan. 26 commentary (“Trump’s push to rename Denali is an insult to Alaskans”) concerning renaming Alaska’s highest mountain is exactly what everyone who has been around Alaska for a few decades expects from him. His historic opinions are always politically leftist. But irrespective of his historic perspective, there is absolutely no basis for saying renaming is an insult to Alaskans. He has no way of knowing how the majority of Alaskans view this issue. And it doesn’t matter if a few others agree with him.
As I’ve already pointed out, the only way to know is to have a vote.
