A resident was seriously injured in a fire Sunday afternoon at a duplex in the Muldoon neighborhood, the Anchorage Fire Department said.
Thirteen units from five stations responded to the fire reported at 4:12 p.m. in the 3600 block of Gayot Drive, with the first units arriving just after 4:15 p.m., the department said. The first crew found one side of the duplex “with heavy fire from the garage extending to the house with heavy smoke in the residence,” according to a release about the incident.
One resident was treated and transported to the hospital in serious condition, the department said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it appears to have started while the man was working on a vehicle in the garage, fire officials said. Half of the duplex was significantly damaged by smoke and fire, and the other half received smoke damage, they said.
