As a parent with two children who graduated from Anchorage public schools and one currently in 10th grade, and as a former school nurse who worked at ASD for over 10 years, I witnessed firsthand the challenges and successes within our public education system. That’s why I’m supporting Margo Bellamy for re-election to the Anchorage School Board Seat A. Margo is an experienced educator and lifelong advocate who’s dedicated her career to making our schools better for students, families and teachers. She knows what it takes to create an environment where kids can excel because she’s spent a lifetime serving our children and families, both in and out of the classroom.
It’s concerning to see the kind of rhetoric coming from her opponent. He’s publicly said that most teachers don’t deserve a raise and even suggested that students shouldn’t trust their teachers. His social media accounts are disturbing to see. How anyone could consider voting for someone who advocates castrating the parents of LGBTQ+ students and who believes “most voters are dumb,” and posts the “Black male is a domestic terrorist,” should not be involved in any part of our school system.
I do know that Margo has been a tireless advocate for issues that matter most. We need leaders who bring people together, not disparage them. Margo has proven time and again that she’s committed to ensuring EVERY student has the tools to succeed. For years, she’s shown up for our kids, our teachers and our families, and it’s time we showed up for her. I’m proud to support Margo Bellamy for the Anchorage School Board, and I hope you’ll join me in voting for a compassionate and proven leader who truly cares about all our children and this community.
